Air & Space Museum Visit

The Grade 6 Students toured the Air & Space Museum, located at Downsview Park with volunteer tour guides Ron and John. By refering to the Q-Chart, students generated a series open-ended questions of which they asked the tour guides. Students will be engaged in the use of new technology and software, to post their new learning through this part of the blog. Please visit and listen to their inquiring questions and look through their photo diary of their visit to a historical part of Toronto. Click the link below to participate. Enjoy :o)

  1. The air & space museum was really cool, and all of the planes were amazing. I think that the Avro Arrow was incredible because it had the technology of an F-22 plane 50 years before the F-22s were built. I also think it was great because it almost coincided with the anniversary of the first flight in Canada. Overall, I think the air & space museum was a great trip, and I would definitely go there again.

  3. The air & space museum was amazing!!!!!!!!! When they showed us the planes and gave us the history on them, it was so fascinating. Especially when they showed us the huge plane. That looked more like a rocket then a plane. It was also interesting when we went to the animal shelter. I would totally go back.

  4. The Aerospace Museum was so fun! I saw some really cool planes, including a plane that was used for movies! It was really interesting taking pictures there-there were so many different angles of the planes which made the photos all turn out really well. I also had a lot of fun in the gym there. We learned and had a great time! I would definitely go again! Sophie

  5. We were very fortunate on the day we visited Downsview Park as we took part in a tour of the Air and Space Museum, invited to visit the Wildlife Centre and end our day with some DPA activities in the Hangar. We live in a city where many historical and supportive centres are very accessible to us all. I would like to read more about your thoughts of what you saw and learned during your visit to the Air and Space Museum, along with extensions of your own learning since our visit.

  6. I really enjoyed the air and space museum because it was so interesting. There were so many great planes to see up close but my favourits plane was the B-17. The B-17 was an aircraft that survived through many wars. The overall museum was really great and I hope to visit it again soon. Ravi

  8. I thought that the Aerospace Museum was an awesome experience! We were able to learn about so many different planes, and also more aviation history. I liked seeing the large outdated engine that had been taken out of one of the planes. On top of all this,we even got to see the animal rehabilitation and sports center! I would definitely go back on my own time! Holly :)

  10. The Air and Space Museum was so cool. I liked it when we recorded ourselves asking the tour guide questions with the ipods. Our questions were in reference to the QCharts so that the tour guide can answer them really well. I would like to use more technology in the classroom like this. JESSICA

  17. I liked the air and space museum because there were many diffrent kinds of air crafts including passenger planes, jets, helicopters, and models. I think my favorite thing in the air and space museum was the model of the first satalite to be launched in canada. I learned about lift, thrust, drag and wieght. The plane that was the most interessting to me was the Ultra Light plane because it was very uniqe. Nathaniel

  19. Taking field trips that allow students to get up close to items is a great way to put things into perspective. The size of the planes, materials used to build, advancements made over time with technology and so on. I too found standing next to the Avro Arrow very "cool". It is truly a remarkable aircraft that makes a very political time in Canadian history. Several students have shared a plane or planes which particularly interested them. What could you share about the aircraft that captured your attention and what role did it play in Canadian Flight?
