Tissue Paper Hot Air Balloon

The Grade 6 classes were engaged in a full day activity where students worked in partners to design and build a tissue paper hot air balloon. Students are to participate in ongoing discussions about their "new learning", as well as reflections of their experience throughout the activity and launch of the balloons. Enjoy :o)

  2. It was a little hard to make the tissue hot air balloon. I will see for the future of doing flight projects. It was cool and fun to make it and make it fly around th gym room since people were trying to catch them like the grades 2. :) Randy

  3. The tissue paper hot air balloons was hard work but in the end we got to test them out in the gym and our reading buddies got to watch them fly in the air. I also like the different designs in the class, I also look forward to another hot air balloon presentation again for both classes in term 3 it was a lot of fun. Lowell

  4. Wow I really liked that we had the opportunity to make hot air balloons because we learnt about whom and when the hot air balloon was discovered. I also liked that our class got to make a very nice design Quincy and I wanted to make a basketball but it turned out to be a happy face =). I am looking forward to all of the other great trips we are going to go on.

  5. Building our tissue hot air balloon was a great experience for our 2 classes. The scientists also taught us about the history of the hot air balloon. When we started working on our hot air balloons, I realized that when you build a hot air balloon, you need to have a lot of patients. When we finished our balloons I was really proud of my balloon that I made. I enjoyed building the balloons and hope to ride on a hot air balloon in the future. Alejandra

  6. Taking one's learning beyond pictures in a book is always very rewarding for all those involved; guest scientists, teachers and most importantly, students. The time, effort and patience each of you applied throughout the day to take in the new learning and then applying that learning when designing and building your hot air balloons is a wonderful display of how much you the students are able to accomplish when engaged in your learning. Keep up the great work everyone!

  10. The tissue paper hot air balloon was an awesome activity to experience! We got to learn about how a hot air balloon works in the real world. We got to build models that can actually FLY! The outline was hard because he had to follow all the instruction correctly or it won’t work. The fun part was the decorating part. Jason
